The Royalton Hotel was developed as one of the first boutique hotels in the Ian Schrager properties portfolio in 1988. Designed by Philippe Starck, the hotel played backdrop to many power lunches of the fashion set in the 90's. In 2007, a dramatic renovation by Roman and Williams breathed new life into the hotel again, with an exciting unveiling of the lobby.
BHDM was asked by Morgans Hotel Group to study the first floor lobby restaurant, to re-imagine the space to once again attract the fashion-forward set, and to recapture the lunch and after work audiences.
Focusing on the hotel's storied past combined with current day celebrity, BHDM sought to create a space for New York's fashion set, at play. Sensual, dark, glamorous materials would be complimented by dramatic lighting, blending seamlessly with the Roman and William's design. Iconic photography of fashion icons would mingle with sculptural hats and fascinators by today's most coveted couturier's.
